A rare concert of Pat Thomas playing the works of long-time inspiration, Thelonious Monk, whose birth was 100 years ago last year.
Pat Thomas studied classical piano from aged 8 and started playing Jazz from the age of 16. He has since gone on to develop an utterly unique style - embracing improvisation, jazz and new music. He has played with Derek Bailey in Company Week (1990/91) and in the trio AND (with Noble) – with Tony Oxley’s Quartet and Celebration Orchestra and in Duo with Lol Coxhill.

> DAVID MURRAY "INFINITY 4TET" & SAUL WILLIAMS (US)

David Murray, a musician who is at once firmly rooted in his own culture and fully open to others, seeks to prioritize an intelligent reading of poetry, without weakening his music or putting his listeners to sleep. Prolific and tireless, he has been perfecting the classic quartet, first with Black Music Infinity and now with his Infinity Quartet. Dismayed by recent incidents affecting the African-American community and saddened by the death of poet Ishmael Reed, he has decided to invite the renowned spoken word and hip-hop performer Saul Williams to extend his reflections on the violence endured by the Black population. The slam poet’s incandescent, activist speech, supported by swing, bop, and free jazz, will go that much further.
